THE PLOT:
A expiation deep within the amazon river discovers a terror hidden within an area known as the Black Lagoon. The Gillman
is stalking the members of the team for invading his territory and is infatuated with the female team member.
ZEDD'S OPINION:
I got to admit I like the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the first real use of a full costume in a major motion picture.
The way they hid the air tank so the actor can perform under the water, the under water segments are wonderful. But in close
up you really couldn't see the Gillman's eyes for some reason, why I cannot tell you. But that was minor compared to how this
classic feel to me. I love the characters, the storyline. The ending was a tad predictable but most sci-fi movies were predictable
back then. I've seen a color test shot of the Gillman which really looks assume, it really makes me wish that they spent the
extra money for color film instead of going with black and white. 9 STARS.
VOLTRON'S OPINION:
I agree with Zedd on this one, in fact I really don't have much to add to the review this time except I felt like many of
the movies in this time period that it dragged on in places. 9 STARS as well.
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ CREATURE DESIGN (I love the creature design.)
+ STORY (The story basically works.)
+ HUMAN CHARACTERS (The human characters were well written)
+ EFFECTS (For the time, the effects were good.)
+ UNDER WATER SEGMENTS (I love the under water segments.)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- PREDICTABLE (It was a tad predictable at times.)
- NO UNDERWATER EYES (I was wondering why the Gillman didn't have eyes under water?)
- DRAGGY (It gets draggy at points.)
...AND FINALLY...
- NO COLOR FILM (They spend the money for a colorful monster then go cheap on the film.)
