THE PLOT:

While on route back to Baghdad with precocious cargo the beautiful Princess Parissa. An ill wind sends the ship way off course onto an uncharted island where Sinbad rescues Zokora the magician who is trying to steal a magic lamp from one very large horned Cyclops.

They escape and Zokora looses the lamp which goes back to the Cyclops. Now Zokora plots to go back to the island by risking war between two kingdoms by shrinking the lovely Parissa, knowing full well that the only cure is back on the island, the missing piece is a shell from a Roc, a giant bird that eats elephants.

ZEDD'S OPINION:

I love all the Harryhausen Sinbad movies. This is the first, but not the best. There is one thing that doesn't quite makes sense to me. That's when the landing party finds the Roc egg that hatches, they attack and kill the Roc Hatching. Zokora says "I wish you didn't let them do that." which Sinbad responds "Hungry men don't ask, they take." I mean, why were they hungry? Didn't they bring enough supplies or did they oops, forgot to bring food on a trek that would take days? Apparently hungry don't think either. Think about the mother that laid the egg. But that is a minor complaint on the whole, the creatures were cool, the story works and the cast does a great job. 9 STARS.

VOLTRON'S OPINION:

I agree with what Zedd said for the most part. The effects and the casts does a great job and the hungry thing I agree with too. But this is still a great movie even with that slight flaw in it. Although the whole getting inmates to fight the Cyclops and having them mutiny seemed tacked on. Plus I would have loved to seen the Sirens that breaks up the mutiny. 9 STARS as well.

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):

+ CREATURES (As always Harry delivers on the creatures.)
+ STORY (The story works great.)
+ CAST (The cast do a great job.)
+ ATMOSPHERE (It feels like we way back in the time of Sinbad.)
+ ACTING (The actors do a great acting job.)
+ COLOR (Big budget color makes it even better.)

ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):

- WHY NO FOOD (Why didn't they bring supplies on a long trek?)
- MOVE THE BIRD (They cut up the baby Roc, why not move it where it's mother wouldn't look!)
- MUTINY (The mutiny seemed tacked on.)

...AND FINALLY...

- NO SIGN OF SIRENS (VOLTRON would have loved to seen the Sirens.)
