THE PLOT:
Nancy always felt like the little woman, the whole town treated her like she was small time. Her husband is having an affair
with a sleezy manacurist, her Father is out to get her to sign some papers. But her small problems are about to be overlapped
by one huge one.
Nancy is zapped by a flying saucer which causes her to grow to fifty feet tall. Now she's the little woman no more and
the people of this town is going to learn not to pick on the little guy.
ZEDD'S OPINION:
I am no fan of the original 1958 movie. It was half hazard and clumsy at best. But this 1993 made for TV remake directed by
Christopher Guest was funny on purpose. It has a great cast including William Windom as her scheming Father who is best known
as Commadore Decker in the original Star Trek and Seth the cranky country doctor in Murder, She Wrote. He does a bang up job
in this funny and well made remake. The effects are 100 times better then the original and if I had to make a choice, I'd
watch this version over the old turkey any day of the week. This is the only classic when it comes to the fifty foot woman.
Plus, there is a great twist at the end which I will not give away, you will have to see it for yourself. But I will say this,
it gives motive to why the aliens made her grow in the first place, something the original never said. I give ATTACK OF THE
50 FT. WOMAN, 8 STARS.

VOLTRON'S OPINION:
First of all Daryl Hannah has got to be one of the most beautiful women on the face of the Earth. So Harry Archer must be
completely out of his pea brain to cheat on her. That said, there are character issues with this movie as there was in the
original, I wouldn't have put up with half the crap that Nancy does in the early part of this movie, it seems to takes growing
to city wrecking proportions to have Nancy grow a backbone. But there are some that prefer the original, why I have no idea.
They said they should have done crazier angles, but I think Guest wanted to stay fateful to the original just with a movie
comic twist and I think he succeeded. 7 STARS.

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ EFFECTS (The effects are very well made.)
+ HUMOR (Not being so damn serious makes this movie even more fun.)
+ FUNNY ON PURPOSE (Intentually funny, where the original was funny by bad production values.)
+ FAR SUPERIOR (Far superior to the orignal in every way.)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- CHARACTER ISSUES (Like the original, there are character issues.)
- NANCY'S BACKBONE (Did it really have to take growing to fifty feet tall for Nancy to grow a backbone?)
...AND FINALLY...
- FAN BASED (If you actually liked the original movie, then we pity you and you may not like this comical retelling.)
