A group of strangers are offered a fortune to stay in a natorious haunted house. The owner is the only one that thinks this
is a bad idea. For the ghosts of the house claimed the lives of his family.
But what is the real motive behind this, a fun game, a way to prove the existence of ghosts or a way to bump off his wife
and blame ghosts??
Allthough the 1999 remake have made improvements in many ways, the original has something the remake couldn't have and that
is Vicent Price. When you got a movie with little effects, with little substance. A movie that is mostly atmosphere, then
you need Vincent Price. He carries a picture like that, makes a dull movie and turns it to something interesting. The world
lost one it's best actors the day Vincent Price died. I have to give the House on Haunted Hill....9 STARS
I agree, Vincent Price made the film. Without Vincent, this would have bombed. I heard that William Castle has a real skeleton
fly though movie theaters, that was neat. But I was born in 1964 and that doesn't help improve the movie watching it 46 years
later on DVD. But the story works and Vincent was brillant, so I'm giving the movie 9 STARS as well.
ON THE POSTIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ STORY (The story works, it works well. Even if it's a tad thin)
+ CHARACTERS (The cast did a great job with the material given)
+ DIALOG (Spooky dialog delivered well)
+ ATMOSPHERE (The eerie atmosphere added to the plot)
AND 2 WORDS...
+ VINCENT PRICE (I think the movie would have failed without him)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- TOO MUCH ATMOSPHERE (It made the plot kind of thin)
- SLOW (Like allot of movies in this time frame, the movie got dull and slow at points)
